Application Migration

Move applications with their runtime, configuration, integrations, secrets, data, and deployment process to a new environment.

Applications depend on more than source code. Runtimes, schedulers, files, databases, APIs, DNS, certificates, secrets, and deployment patterns must move consistently.

When this service is needed

  • An application must move to a new server, cloud, or container platform.
  • The existing runtime is unsupported or difficult to secure.
  • Deployment needs modernising without changing business function.
  • Application dependencies are not fully documented.

Scope

  • Application discovery, dependency maps, and configuration inventory.
  • Runtime and target-platform compatibility assessment.
  • Packaging, containerisation, or replatforming where required.
  • Secret, certificate, file, integration, and scheduled-job migration.
  • Functional, regression, performance, and security validation.
  • Cutover, rollback, monitoring, and post-migration hypercare.

Migration stages

  1. Discovery: inventory assets, dependencies, owners, and criticality.
  2. Design: define the target, migration method, acceptance criteria, and rollback.
  3. Rehearsal: test tools, timings, data, and procedures within a controlled scope.
  4. Cutover: execute the move through checklists and escalation paths.
  5. Validation: prove function, integrity, security, and performance.
  6. Stabilisation: monitor outcomes, remediate findings, and retire legacy systems.

Deliverables

  • Inventory and dependency map.
  • Migration runbook, cutover plan, and rollback plan.
  • Test and reconciliation evidence.
  • Target-environment documentation and decommission plan.

Intended outcomes

The application runs in the target environment with validated function, integration, deployment, observability, and operational ownership.
